SBB Heater Plate off to New Zealand

Another successfully completed project has left the Profoil premises this week with the sale of a 22″ x 32″ honeycomb heater plate for a Heidelberg SBB machine in New Zealand. This isn’t the first plate of this size and spec to be sold, but we did make some customisation to our original design to accommodate a customer request.

As per all our heater plates larger than the 13″ x 18″ GTP size, we used a high-grade steel plate which follows an intense stress-relieving process before the CNC machining process even begins. Once the cutting is complete, the machine is shipped to an expert service we trust to complete a precision grounding exercise. This ensures the plate is produced as flat as possible providing a perfect print/foiling surface.

Our customer requested the implementation of rule measures to assist their operators when completing makeready and registration. This was a first for us to accommodate in to our template design. We utilised the CNC process to adapt an additional run along the front of the plate to produce a 2mm cut from edge to edge of the plate. This produced a perfect positioning surface to accommodate a dropped left to right and right to left measuring rule – both measuring zero from the centre of the plate outwards. A simple screw fixing attachment held the rules in place without them being raised over the surface of the plate.

We also custom made some lifting handles which can be screwed in to the centre sides of the plate to allow for easier removal from the machine, when switching from foiling to die cutting – they certainly helped us move the plate around the workshop!

During the initial quotation period, we discussed the possible die fixing solutions available and the customer was very grateful of the information provided about toggle hooks. The customer had previously been using bunter post method on their original Heidelberg SBB heater plate, but now looks forward to a simpler and faster method for better time efficiency.
