We asked our expert, Alan Hutchings for his top tips on foiling and too no surprise, Alan wanted to address an issue experienced by many foilers, all struggling to achieve that high quality, detailed foil finish.
The Phenolic Sheets we sell at Profoil has been cloth impregnated during its manufacture, which gives it extra strength, flexibility and protects it from fracturing a lot less than the standard Pertinax available on the market.
“With all foiling, die temperature is vital, and yet many printers control their temperature by monitoring the heat bed itself. Without the right make-ready materials, you will loose temperature quickly through the transfer of heat from the bed, the die and the cylinder/foil press, sometimes up to a 30% loss”.
“You must achieve the right temperature to produce that perfect, non-patchy, smooth finish and therefore I recommend Phenolic board”.
Phenolic Board provides excellent insulation by stopping heat transfer from the die to your cylinder/foil press. “I’ve demonstrated this material on many occasions to customers and the Phenolic makes an instant impact to the foil finish”.
Phenolic can withstand a large number of impressions, it prevents show through on the reverse of the board and is excellent for achieving that crisp impression in fine to medium detail jobs.
Alan has over 20 years in the print finishing industry.
